The Global Cholangiocarcinoma Alliance (GCA) – World Cholangiocarcinoma Day- 12 February 2022 and beyond

Scientific Education Support provides secretariat support for the Global Cholangiocarcinoma Alliance.

This February, the collective voice of the Global Cholangiocarcinoma Alliance came together to mark World Cholangiocarcinoma Day with a campaign to raise awareness and support for cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) called “See CCA.” The GCA has united to establish a global community in CCA through international collaborations, and it works towards improving the future for patients with CCA across the globe.​ 

CCA, also known as bile duct cancer, is a cancer with a high mortality rate. Although it is considered rare, the worldwide incidence of this devastating cancer is increasing. The epidemiology of the disease varies between regions, with risk factors well defined in some areas and poorly in others.​ 

As part of our campaign for World CCA Day, we launched a wide range of materials that can be found and downloaded here on the GCA website . All were made available in multiple formats, including editable, to ensure easy translations and global inclusivity!​ We urged everyone to get involved online and offline and encouraged colleagues and friends to do so too to show support and raise awareness.  

On February 11–13, the Twitter hashtags #WorldCCADay and #SeeCCA saw over 9,000 impressions and 1,500 engagements, including retweets, likes, and mentions. Across Facebook and Instagram, we increased our page likes, drove upwards of 450 page views and 175 profile visits, and saw continuous engagement and interactions throughout. 

Our integrated campaign running for the month of February also includes the promotion of a series of patient support animations covering a variety of topics, including the causes, diagnosis, and treatment of CCA. These can all be found here on the GCA website , and initial results show high levels of engagement, particularly on Facebook. Our campaign will run until the end of February to encourage as many people as possible to get involved and raise awareness of CCA for World CCA Day and beyond. 

You can support the goals of the GCA further by joining 1,127 people who have already signed the pledge to support the CCA community to raise awareness globally. We use these pledges to continue to build a network of informed supporters who will strengthen and expand our reach in establishing a global voice in CCA and ensure our vision becomes a reality.
