Spotlight on partnerships: The IWMF and Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia Global Awareness-Building Initiative

Here at SES, we understand that representing the patient perspective at all stages of medical education provision delivers the most impactful and practice-changing learning. We work hand-in-hand with our patient societies to drive disease awareness and enhance learning for both our physician and patient communities, recognizing that real change comes when we work together to drive a collective impact in a disease space. 

No activity better embodies this than our work with the International Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia Foundation (IWMF) in the delivery of the Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia (WM) Global Awareness-Building Initiative.  

The IWMF is a patient-founded and patient-driven, non-profit organization that is dedicated to a simple but compelling vision and mission to support and educate everyone affected by WM and to improve patient outcomes while advancing the search for a cure. 

Our joint work aims to increase awareness of WM among HCPs, patients, caregivers, and the patient advocacy community across the world. 

Through the Lymphoma Hub, SES’s independent medical education platform, the initiative shares new data, evidence-based articles, therapy approvals, and expert opinions on WM that support HCPs worldwide by helping them make informed treatment decisions and ensuring that patients have access to the latest support and treatment options.​ 

Our first examples of WM-community accelerated learning have quadrupled engagement numbers within the first quarter and a downloadable infographic on the WM treatment landscape was shared in hardcopy with over 100 HCPs at the recent IWMF Educational Forum in St Louis, US. 

Running in parallel to this HCP-facing education, together we deliver a year-round dedicated awareness campaign targeting patients and carers within the WM community worldwide. 

This includes ongoing campaigns on social media and through the IWMF Torch Community and the creation of patient-focussed WM content, such as expert interviews and downloadable resources, such as a patient manifesto, which are hosted on the IWMF website. These assets can be downloaded and translated into local languages, meaning we can offer content in over 100 languages, permitting a truly global reach and breaking down barriers of access to medical education. 

We recently welcomed our inaugural supporter of the initiative, Cellectar Biosciences, to the WM community and are very grateful for their ongoing support.
