SES team makes a difference at Hackney Foodbank challenge
The SES team recently embraced community spirit at the Hackney Foodbank supermarket sweep challenge, turning friendly competition into meaningful charitable action.
Team members raced through supermarket aisles selecting essential items from prepared lists, knowing each product would directly support someone in need. Unlike traditional sweeps, this event focused on gathering critical supplies for local food banks and crisis centers.
The results were remarkable: the team collected an impressive 268.9kg of food, equivalent to 347 meals for people in poverty. Additionally, their monetary donation of £1,050 will provide approximately 1,699 meals for people experiencing extreme hardship.
“Every item we grabbed would directly help someone in our community,” noted one participant. The challenge yielded a substantial collection of non-perishable foods, hygiene products, and household essentials—vital resources for families facing hardship.
Event organizer Jenna Fansa set the tone with a powerful introduction about food insecurity in the community, transforming a team-building exercise into genuine community service.
Beyond the charitable impact, colleagues strengthened relationships while developing workplace-relevant skills like strategic planning and collaboration under time constraints.
As donations were loaded for distribution, the SES team departed with a profound sense of accomplishment, knowing their contribution would provide real support to those in vulnerable situations.
