The GvHD Hub was delighted to host a live symposium at the European Bone Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) 2026 Congress in Madrid, Spain, on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, from 13:00–14:00 CET. The session brought together leading experts and a patient voice to explore practical insights on extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) in the management of graft-versus-host disease (GvHD).

About the symposium

Titled Focusing GvHD care through the eyes of providers and patients: Practical insights on ECP, the session was chaired by Prof. Hildegard Greinix and featured presentations from a multidisciplinary panel of speakers:

  • Michelle Kenyon explored the vital role of nurses within the multidisciplinary GvHD care team, covering clinical assessments, care coordination, and patient education
  • Prof. Hildegard Greinix offered a physician's perspective through a case-based approach to treating GvHD with ECP, addressing patient selection, response assessment, and the management of special populations
  • Matea Meden provided a powerful patient perspective, sharing her personal journey with GvHD, her experience with ECP therapy, and the impact on her quality of life

The session concluded with an engaging panel discussion on key clinical considerations, challenges, and best practices for optimising ECP in GvHD, followed by closing remarks and a post-activity evaluation.

The symposium was well attended, and the Q&A and panel discussion generated lively and thoughtful exchange between speakers and delegates — reflecting the strong interest in this important area of GvHD care.
